Tomorrow will mark the completion of the 2nd week of the 3rd month of boot camp and I am proud to report that I am still motivated and ready to go. There are several things that keep me going, but the one thing that motivates me the most is the changes I am seeing. This time, I’m not talking about myself; I’m talking about the people around me.
My partner Kristy, for example, she’s self employed and works a part time job. Because of the hours she works, she is unable to participate in boot camp. Instead of using the easy excuse “I don’t have the time to workout”, she tries to fit her workouts in between jobs. She has trained for and completed a triathlon, and is very conscious about her food choices. This woman inspires me every day.
Another good example is my fellow camper, Michelle (pictured in the middle)(that’s Jackie on the right). This woman refuses to give up no matter what. Since joining boot camp, she has completed a 5K, climbed stone mountain and just this week, I witnessed her passing someone on one of our runs. When I let her know I noticed, she said “that’s the first time I’ve done that”. There was great pride in all that heavy breathing.
I have learned that by surrounding myself with inspiring people, I too, can become inspiring and maybe, just maybe I’l be able to return the favor.
