For most of my dieting life, I’ve followed only Weight Watchers as my way to lose weight. Mostly, it was a non-thinking way of dieting. It didn’t matter what I ate as long as I stayed within my allotted points. Even if I did go over my points I could borrow against my banked or “Flex” points to make up the difference. Additionally, there isn’t any limits on the amount of fruits and vegetables you can eat, so I never really ever had to stop eating. Mind you, I was successful several times, but got tired of calculating points for everything I put in my mouth, so I would just stop and on came the pounds.
For my current attempt at weight-loss I switched to counting calories and I have to say, I’m liking this method much more. I have started using the My Fitness Pal app and website to track my progress and so far, it’s working for me. I still struggle a bit with staying under my calorie limit and since there are no calories to borrow from, I really have to pay attention to how much I eat. Did you know that fruits and vegetables really do have calories? Because some fruits are fairly high in calories, It’s a big consideration when making my fruit choices. Thankfully, I’ve had some help from a friend, thanks Becca, who has emailed me meal plan ideas and some advice when making my choices, and it’s starting to get a little easier.
With both WW and calorie counting, I still need to track my food, but I do not need to calculate anything. All I need to do is just look on the label to get the calories. This new way of doing things may just help me get over part of my laziness of tracking.
A plus side of using My Fitness Pal vs WW is My Fitness Pal is free compared to $18.95 or $49.95 per month on WW, depending if you choose strictly online attend the meetings
I think this new way of dieting just may work for me. We will have to wait and see.
